Analysis of migration ways and formation locations of hydrocarbons in “Saatly-Goychay-Mughan” buried zone structures
L.J. AbilgasanovaBuried structures of Saatly-Goychay-Mughan (SGM) zone are confined to the “blurred” surface of the Mesozoic deposits covered with Cenozoic deposits with thickness of about 7 km, which monoclinally deepen towards South Caspian, while the Mesozoic structures amplitude does not exceed 100 m. According to the results of mainly seismic geophysical survey, a number of new structures were identified, but in no of them except Muradkhanly was found commercial oil. Despite of this, there is an assumption of high prospects of SGM zone for oil and gas. However, to this day, there is no consensus on formation, migration and formation location of hydrocarbons. Analyzing existing geological and geophysical data, the authors suggest that oil and gas in the SGM area formed in the South Caspian hydrocarbon basin and migrated to SGM zone, but as buried they “formed” in the collectors of Mesozoic under the powerful Cenozoic deposits.
