Fields of bitumen and bituminous rocks in Azerbaijan are generally widespread in Absheron and Shamakhy-Gobustan oil-gas bearing regions. These fields are dated for exposure of sediments of Productive Series, Sarmatian stage, Chokrak horizon, rarely Eocene and covering them quaternary formations. Bituminous rocks are expressed by sands, sandstones, aleurite, aleurolites, clay rocks in different degrees of saturated hydrocarbons. Bitumen accumulations are provided by asphaltites, kir, malta and high viscous oils. Bituminous rocks have been researches from the point of view of contents of the following elements: Cu, Zn, Pb, Sn, Ag, Ni, Mg. Concentration of mentioned elements was defined via the method of instrumental analysis of neuron-activation in the samples of natural bituminous rock without release from it bitumen or any other impact. The results of research showed that specified colored, noble and rare metals, as well as sulphur, sodium carbonate, borium and halogens are widely contained in bituminous rocks of Absheron and Shamakhy-Gobustan oil-gas bearing regions; the fields of bituminous rocks of oil-gas bearing region is of great interest for their integrated development.
