State of hydrocarbons in Miocene sediments and prospects of their oil-gas bearing potential in the west flank of South Caspian basin

K.F. Mustafayev

Oil-gas properties of Miocene sediments in the west flank of South Caspian basin have been studied. The presence of renewed geochemical conditions both in the west and south-east parts of the region was ultimately significant for hydrocarbon accumulation in Miocene sediments. In the result of carried out researches, high oil-gas bearing potential of Miocene sediment was revealed. It is rational to conduct exploration surveys in these regions on more wide-scale basis in the future. Oil-gas bearing potential in most of the areas is stipulated with Miocene sediments accumulated in collector layers on the wings of periclinale. Thus, the studies should be oriented to the identification of litho-stratigraphic traps of oil and gas resources with economic value.
