Technology of obtaining base oils from Azerbaijan petroleum

Technology of obtaining base oils from Azerbaijan petroleum underwent several stages of development: treatment with sulfuric acid and clay, selective solvents and applying hydrogenation processes as well. The paper presents the results of research on oil fractions properties from the mixture of Azerbaijan petroleum (Surakhany, Shirvan, Neft Dashlary), which is received in Oil Refining Plant named after H.Aliyev. It is suggested to conduct the hydrogenation of these oils by two versions selective treatment of distillates with further hydrogenation of refined oil; total catalytic hydrogenation (hydroconversion) of distillate oil fraction. As a feedstock, oil fraction boiling at 330550 оС from mentioned oil mixture was used. The refining of oil fraction has been carried out in I method selective treatment hydrotreatment. With combination of selective treatment and hydrotreatment from oil fraction of oil mixture (fraction 330550 оС), it is achieved to obtain the base oil (СН 180, viscosity index 100) meeting API requirements (hydrocarbon content 9.1 % and sulfur 0.03 %). II method consists of feedstock undergoing catalytic hydroconversion of oil distillate (fraction 330550 оС) in the presence of Russian production catalysts. By means of further hydroconversion of oil distillate, it is possible to decrease the content of aromatic hydrocarbons in oil fraction from 18.0 % to 11 %, and sulfur from 0.028 % and obtain the oil of СН 180 type with viscosity index 89.
