In the central and southwestern Gobustan, the deposits of the Maikop suite are widely occurred and represented by both subsuites. Clay lithofacies dominate in the northern Gobustan, and in the southern part of the region; the upper subsuite is composed of alternating shales, siltstones, sand and sandstones. They can be traced in all investigated fields, both in sections of wells and in the outcrops. The number of sand horizons decreases to the north. For instance, according to the deep drilling data, six horizons (VI, V, IV, III, II, I from the bottom to the top) were revealed in the Umbaki field, and only one was encountered in the Sheytanud area. It has also been justified that the northward trend of quartz’ average content in Maikopian Series rocks reduces dramatically. The analysis of changing dynamics of Maikop suite reservoir properties defines that filtration-capacity properties of the rocks show better characteristics in the southern-east direction.
