Lithologic-petrographic, facies-genetic criteria for identification of volume and border of “Absheron facies” distribution within the western board of South Caspian

HashimovBased on the wide sedimentological material involving up-to-date regional-geophysical and field-geophysical survey data, the authors tried to throw light on the issues of volume and genesis of Absheron facies of Productive Series. The essence of works of previous researches on the structure and genesis of Absheron facies is reviewed in retro-historical aspect. The paper presents petrographic analysis of lithological criteria of Absheron facies’ distribution in the four structural-facies zones of Productive Series. Afterwards, based on petrographic correlations, the borders of Absheron facies’ distribution are described. The authors tried to develop a sedimentological model of Absheron facies of Productive Series using facies-genetic, stratigraphic and petrographic ranges of its distribution.
