Geothermal features of thermal waters (in the order of discussion)
U.S. SalahovaThermal waters of Azerbaijan are associated with deep faults of General Caucasus, submarine and orthogonal directions. The warmth from the mantle migrates vertically to the Earth surface. Depending on the bedding of water bearing reservoir and the area, thermal waters have different temperatures. Thus, for exam¬ple, on Kurdemir area their temperature reaches up to 94 оС. In this case, the important criterion is the intrusion of Middle Jurassic appearing as a conductive factor. Thermal springs in Lenkeran-Lerik area are associated with deep faults. Geothermic step and gradient change depending on the depth and area. In Khaftkhoni, Donuzotan, Misharchay, Gotursu, Arkivan and other areas the temperature of spring water fluctuates between 50 оС and 64 оС, the discharge comprises 3.5–5.0 l/s. Gas com-position of these waters relates to the nitrogen-methane group. In Istisu-Kelbajar area thermic step is 2–3 m/оС, and the water temperature on the surface reaches up to 70 оС. During research surveys, special attention was paid to these aspects affecting the formation of the country’s thermal waters.
