Study of heavier applied in the drilling and the development of alternative solutions
R.M. Zeynalov PhD in Tech. Sc. - “Oil-Gas Scientific Research Project” InstituteThe heavier performs significant functions during the treatment of the drilling mud. The paper presents detailed information on the heavier applied, and their effect on the structural-mechanical and colloidal-chemical properties of the drilling mud types. The studies on the selection of the alternative heavier types instead of barite to prevent pore pollution of productive horizons have been conducted. It is shown that after the weighting of the drilling mud via the carbonate heavier, a sharp increase in the viscosity of the drilling mud appears, as a result of which adding a corresponding viscosity reducer into the mud composition becomes necessary. Using the catastrophe theory suggested by Rene Tom, the processes occurring in the drilling mud have been estimated. The shearing processes after adding the carbonate heavier into the drilling mud composition have been studied as well.
