Synthesis and properties of multifunctional alkylphenolate additive to motor oils

The presented work relates to the synthesis and study of a highly alkaline alkylphenolate additive containing nitrogen-, sulfur-, and carboxylates with high anticorrosive, antioxidant, and detergent properties for motor oils.
For this purpose, sulfurized p-dodecylphenol was mixed with Mannix base obtained by aminomethylation of p-dodecylphenol with ammonia in the ratio of 1:1 (50:50), and condensed the mixture with formaldehyde, the obtained product was neutralized with excess Ca(OH)2 and in terms of mixture 7.6–7.8 % mixed with caprylic acid additio, after that were carbonized with carbon dioxide.
Physico-chemical at the same time spectral analysis of composition, molecular-size analysis by means of IDS and functional properties of the obtained additive in terms of mineral oil content were studied in comparison with industrial analogues (OLOA-218A and MASK) and it was found that the synthesized additive AKI-229K has high functional properties. In addition, the participation of carboxylate group in the carbonized colloidal structure of alkylphenolate additives leads to the formation of high alkalinity (190–200 mgKOH/g), enhancement of multifunctional effects such as antioxidation, anticorrosion, antiwear, neutralization and detergent, as the easy adsorption of heteroatoms such as nitrogen and sulfur to the metale and oxidation products, it can also be noted the synergistic participation of the mentioned additive qualities in preventing the deposition of these products on the metal surface.
High-performance oil M-10G2 based on mineral oil obtained from petroleum using the obtained additive was prepared and tested. It was found out that it more than meets modern GOST requirements and is on the level of Shell brand oils (Rotella TX-30/Rumila C-30).
Thus, it can be said that the presented additive AKI-229K is a highly alkaline, neutralizing, detergent and at the same time multifunctional carbonized calcium alkylphenolate.
