bitumen-polymer mastic

It is known that long-term operation of oilfield equipment and hydraulic structures often leads to increased corrosion damage to underground and above-ground equipment, which is fraught with accidents, fire hazards, and uncontrolled oil spills.
In order to improve the quality of anti-corrosion protection and increase the trouble-free service life of pipelines of the in-field transport system and hydraulic equipment, a bitumen-polymer mastic based on a non-scarce feedstock was developed and tested.
Solvents (toluene, solvent, white spirit), 70/30 bitumen, liquid glass, petroleum polymer resins and natural bitumen with a mixture of sand and clay as a filler were used to obtain new compositions.
To enhance the anti-corrosion properties, corrosion inhibitors based on fatty acids, asidol and light gas oil were introduced into the mastic composition, which also have a positive effect on the hiding power and mechanical strength of the mastic.
A technology for producing bitumen-polymer mastic was developed for pilot industrial testing. Field tests were conducted on a 150-meter pipeline with a diameter of 219 mm in the “Bibieybatneft” Oil and Gas Production Department.
Industrial tests have shown that this mastic has sufficient adhesion to steel and provides the required reliability of pipeline protection from corrosion under conditions of significant temperature fluctuations.
