Antioxidant properties of acidic oxygen-containing substances obtained from industrial alkaline wastes
B.A. Huseynova Dr. in Ch. Sc. - Institute of Petrochemical ProcessesThe article discusses the oxidation inhibitory properties of naturally acidic oxygenated compounds (acids and phenols) separated from petroleum, which can replace expensive synthetic organic compounds such as naphthol, ionol, and phenol-type synthetic compounds.
Oil acidic oxygen-containing compounds (AOC) – phenols were studied as an antioxidant – synthetic ionol. Natural phenols were isolated from industrial alkaline waste oils – asidol-soap naphtha with an aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate. The yield of phenol was 66.0 % with a small admixture of weak acids. Molecular weight – 246.8 a.u.; acid number – 273 mg KOH/g; average empirical formula – C16.2H27.1O1.6. Based on the conducted comprehensive studies on UV, PMR spectroscopy showed that the aromatic part of the isolated phenols is 7 % by weight, of which 5.3 % are benzene, 1.7 % by weight are naphthalene cycles.
Thus, the composition of the obtained AOC includes alkyl-, cycloalkylphenols, naphthols, fatty acids and naphthenic weakly acidic acids.
In order to determine the inhibitory properties, the resulting concentrate was tested as an additive to petroleum oil both independently and in combination with other commercial additives. A relatively large effect as an antioxidant was achieved in combination with other commercial additives. This causes the manifestation of autosynergism. The resulting turbine oil compositions meet all the requirements of the standard in terms of stability.
