Study of corrosion aggressiveness of formation waters to ensure corrosion protection of oil field equipment
K.A. Mamedov Cand. in Tech. Sc. - “Oil-Gas Scientific Research Project” InstituteThe article analyzes formation waters taken from wells with high water cut at the Guneshli field for corrosion activity. The main indicators in the analysis were the rate of metal corrosion, the presence of sulfate-reducing bacteria, the content of hydrogen sulfide, as well as chloride and sulfate ions in formation water. The studies showed that in 6 (14 %) wells out of the 44 studied flooded wells the formation waters were slightly corrosive, the average corrosion rate of metal samples in these formation waters was 0.05 mm/year, in 11 (25 %) wells with moderately corrosive formation waters the average corrosion rate of metal samples was 0.38 mm/year, and in 27 (61 %) wells with highly corrosive formation waters the average corrosion rate of metal samples was 0.6 mm/year. In 20 (50 %) flooded wells the hydrogen sulfide content averaged 23.56 mg/l, in 15 (37 %) – 65.89 mg/l, in 3 (8 %) – 124.67 mg/l. Two wells with a hydrogen sulfide content of 153–272 mg/l make up 5 % of the total number of wells studied. Hydrogen sulfide was not detected in the produced water of 4 wells.
The average value of the sum of sulfate and chloride ions in the formation water of 28 (65 %) production wells was 8.82–39.22 g/l, respectively. The average total value of sulfate and chloride ions in 15 wells (34 %) was 12.25 g/l, and in one well – 39.22 g/l. In addition, the study of the corrosive aggressiveness of formation water made it possible to compile aggressiveness maps for the Guneshli field.
Based on the research results, appropriate protective measures (physicochemical and biological methods) were developed to ensure reliable operation of oilfield equipment operating in an aggressive environment of formation waters.
