This article demonstrates that effective pressure management during oil, gas, and water show elimination lies in protecting against the imbalance of complications arising at the wellhead. The basis for preparing for a show’s elimination is the timely detection of its initial stage.
It has been established that the solution in rocks stratifies into phases, meaning that water particles become free. Over time, the concentration of water behind the mud cake in the wellbore exceeds the concentration of water in the drilling fluid inside the wellbore.
It is believed that during drilling, due to the presence of the mud cake in the wellbore, only one-way osmotic suction is possible. As a result, the amount of water in the solution increases as it is sucked into the wellbore, reducing the hydrostatic pressure of the fluid column and creating additional osmotic pressure from the formation – an osmotic effect that leads to the formation of oil, gas, and water shows. Thus, when osmotic swelling is weakened during mechanical dispersion, surface swelling is activated due to particle hydration in the formation.
Thus, from the analysis of the conducted study, it can be concluded that the development of osmotic pressure in an open wellbore during drilling with floating drilling rigs poses a risk for oil, gas, and water seeps, and the intensity, direction, and range of pressure changes can influence the occurrence of well complications.
