Hydrogeological characteristics of groundwater in the Eastern Zangezur region

The East Zangezur region has very complex hydrogeological features. Groundwater in the mountainous, foothill and plain zones has a different hydrographic network. In this regard, the feeding, transportation and discharge areas of groundwater are regulated by various criteria. The rivers existing in the area play an important role in feeding groundwater. In this regard, as shown in the scientific article, the Araz, Hakari, Bargushad, Okchuchay, Chaylaqchay and others have a great influence on the formation of groundwater.
 the surface waters of the Eastern Zangezur region are being polluted by Armenia in various ways. They continue to discharge toxic substances into the Okchuchay and other water bodies during mining operations, contrary to international environmental standards. This also has a negative impact on the hydrogeological conditions of the region.
