The negative impact of microwaves on the liquid surface in large tanks during commercial accounting of products in oil depots on the measurement results was studied, and algorithms for accurate scanning and evaluation of fluctuations were proposed. The assumption of a constant height of the liquid in oil tanks and the failure to take into account the effect of microwaves on its free surface in the measurement results lead to an error of 3–5 mm, which means a large amount of product being released from accounting and economic losses.
In this article, for the first time, the impact of microwaves on the measurement results in large-diameter oil tanks was studied, it was clarified that it causes quite large losses, and assessments were made. A new method and system for high-precision scanning of waves generated on the liquid surface and measurement of its parameters have been developed, and tests have been conducted using exemplary laboratory equipment and computer modeling to confirm its adequacy.
