The problem of sustainability has become an object of scientific research since the beginning of the twentieth century. The concept of “sustainable development” was first reflected in the report of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 1980. This organization defined sustainability as an integrated approach to the protection and conservation of ecosystems and the rational use of resources.
The oil and gas complex is an important sector of the country’s economy, and its activities play an important role in the formation of the Gross Domestic Product and the republican budget.
The analysis shows that there are differences of opinion among researchers about sustainability. The article presents the views of a number of researchers on sustainability and their differences.
The oil and gas complex is one of the traditional industries of Azerbaijan, and achieving sustainability here can characterize the sustainable development of the country’s economy as a whole. The article examines the number of employees and the turnover coefficient in SOCAR, establishes a regression relationship between total product production and fixed capital, the number of employees and expenditures on new equipment, and provides an economic interpretation of the obtained model.
