The oil-collecting and oil-dispersing properties of oxypropylated imidazolines based on distilled natural petroleum acids and polyethylenepolyamines, or triethylenetetramine, were studied. The imidazolines were obtained by a known method of interaction of natural petroleum acids with polyamines at their molar ratio of 2:1 and 1:1, respectively. Tests on removing a thin oil film from the water surface and studying the oil-collecting and oil-dispersing properties of the synthesized oxypropylates were carried out using Ramana oil in three types of water: sea, fresh and distilled. The test results indicate the advantage of 5 % solutions of the synthesized oxypropylates in ethanol compared to the pure reagent. By comparing the data of the two kinds of oligomers, it was found that the indicators of imidazoline oxypropylates based on triethylenetetramine and their 5 % solutions in ethanol on sea water are relatively superior to the corresponding values of their analogues based on polyethylenepolyamines, also differing in comparatively greater stability.
Reagents of such composition are recommended for collecting oil from the surface of various waters in case of accidental spills.
