Investigation of the influence of the process of oil displacement by water on the recovery of residual oil
M.A. Huseynova - “Oil-Gas Scientific Research Project” InstituteDuring the compression of oil in terrigenous formations containing clay, porosity, permeability, relative phase permeability, and interfacial tension parameters dynamically change as a result of the interaction of rock and liquid during compression of oil by water of varying mineral composition. These changes are accompanied, in particular, by clay swelling, ion exchange, salt sorption and transformation of capillary forces, which ultimately directly affects the oil recovery factor. The article analyzes the process of oil displacement by water with varying degrees of mineralization for a clay formation based on a multicomponent nonlinear hydrodynamic model. The model takes into account the continuity equation, Darcy’s law, phase equilibrium, relative permeability function, Henry isotherm and clay swelling hysteresis parameter. Analysis of the performance of horizons V, VII and VIII of the SDXZ field for 1963–2024 shows that significant residual oil reserves remain despite the high flooding level of the field. Horizons V, VII and VIII of the SDXZ field have entered a mature stage of development as a result of long-term production, with declining production and increasing flooding. Analysis of geological and mining data shows that significant residual oil reserves exist in heterogeneous sand-silt formations, lithologically and tectonically protected zones.
