About discovery of new tectonic blocks and stratigraphic sections in the fields under the final stage of development
R. R. JafarovDespite of fixing the geological structures of fields under long-term development in Azerbaijan sector of Caspian Sea and oily and gaseous horizon of Productive series (Lower Pliocene), there is still a need for specifying their tectonic structures and for complete study of stratigraphic section (Gala strata) of lower part of Productive Series (PS). Besides implementation of measures necessary for increasing oil extraction factor in old fields under operation, it is also of a great importance to discover new tectonic blocks and stratigraphic sections having potential hydrocarbon yields. Darwin bank and Pirallahi island fields situated on Absheron-South anticline line at Absheron archipelago are old oil fields under development. These fields are attributed to group of uplifts with complex tectonic structure according to their geological structure. Research-exploration wells in a considerable number were drilled in the region and also seismic-survey works were carried out through Common Depth Point method in certain areas due to shallowness of sea bed. Specification of geological structures of uplifts, discovery of new stratigraphic sections and finding out oil-gas bearing areas are one of the main factors in carrying out seismic-survey works of research and exploration wells by new method (3D) here. The article provides analysis of research works carried out in discovery of new potential oily tectonic blocks and stratigraphic sections in the fields which are under the final stage of development.
