About the selection of drilling mud formulas while clay containing rocks drilling

A.B. Suleymanov

The intervals put by clay rocks are inclined to high captiousness, caving of well walls, and formation of slurry plugs. The complications connected with the instability of well borehole walls occur in drill-string jamming and drag, freezing and circulation loss. Although the different formulas drilling mud were developed the issues of clay rocks swelling and keeping well wall stability are still of current interest. With the aim to investigate mechanism of different inhibitors and drilling mud influence on clay rocks the experimental research works on the special model set were conducted. The drilling mud types providing keeping stability while drilling clay-containing rocks were suggested.
