The article is devoted to the study of side waves role in wave field forming, where the field observations of VSP (OVP - Offset Vertical Profiling) and results of OVP digital data processing are considered. It was established that a side wave on frequency composition does not differ from common primary reflection (useful). The only distinction between them is the multidirection of propagation plane. Here are given the results of parametrical decomposition of field, in which ready-built one-dimensional high-speed model and calculated projections are used, that did not lead to elimination of side waves. The similar results are obtained also by the butterfly filters. At last it should be noted that the task is three-dimensional and only 3D seismic prospecting is the effective mean in increasing of propagation distance and the side waves control investigation.
