Mechanical plugging is the main cause of formation permeability damage. Such plugging can be caused by formation fines, added solids, cement, or other debris suspended in the completion fluid. For this reason, typical or even modified drilling muds with their high solids content should not be used for well completion and or workover operations with open perforations. Such practice expose the production formation to risk of skin damage and for this purpose requires use of good quality filtered completion fluids.
