Gas bearing properties and sea bottom gas shows in upper portion of section across areas of Absheron and Baku archipelagos in Azerbaijan sector of Caspian Sea have been studied, evaluated and more precisely attributed to intervals and deposits. For the first time there have been compiled new maps, lines and sections reflecting gas accumulations in upper part of section, gas shows at sea bottom, regularities of distribution of rocks saturated by methane-type gases across the section and areas together with evaluation of gas-geochemical situation. The studies outlined locations of gas accumulations and sea bottom areas with dominance of gas shows with further evaluation of geological setting, including analysis of possible presence of gas hydrate. There were also proposed ways of further exploration for alternative hydrocarbon sources of this type.
