The paper offers a classification of pipelines for the characteristics of efficiency of operation of existing system of pipelines, as well as for prediction of further fails. Oil and oil-gas subsea pipelines, which are in the balance of analyzed OGPD, have been divided into three conditional groups by construction years. As a result of such a conditional distribution, an attention is paid to the necessity of appropriate estimation of operation resource, quality standard and technical condition of the pipelines in the first group. Although the classification partly characterizes the technical condition of the pipelines, it is quite a practical diagnostic tool in the struggle against the decrease of reliability and quality of the subsea pipelines operated in recent 20-30 years in the complicated offshore conditions with increasing probability of failures and risks in transportation system. Offered classification covers all subsea pipelines used in the development of offshore fields, as well as can serve for improvement of their operation reliability.
